Silchar, Nov 8: President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday conferred the Padma awards to the recipients at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Dr R Ravi Kannan noted oncologist and director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (CCHRC) has received the Padma Shri award recognising his incredible contribution in the field of medicine and cancer cure, in particular. The announcement of the award recipients was made in January 2020.
It may be mentioned that born on August 5, 1964, Dr Kannan joined the Cachar Cancer Hospital in 2007 from the Adyar Cancer Institute Chennai and since then he has been the panacea to cancer afflicted souls of southern Assam.
Sharing his thoughts with the media after receiving the award, Dr Kannan said, "This recognition is for everyone in the hospital, residents of Silchar, Barak Valley and the state of Assam. This is not about me. I am just a cog in the wheel of many inspirational people who matter at the hospital."
Keeping his focus on cancer treatment, the oncologist who also fought against and defeated COVID-19 recently said that the hospital is growing each day owing to the continuous support and involvement pitched by everyone. However, he underscored the importance of early detection of the disease which, he said, could save many lives.
