Non-inclusion of Barak student organisations irks Sushmita Dev

By Staff Correspondent

Silchar, Sept 1: The non-inclusion of student organizations from the three districts of Barak Valley in the recently held discussion on education-related matters has irked former Silchar MP Sushmita Dev.

Dev, who is now a member of the All India Trinamool Congress committee (AITC) has expressed her disappointment on the non-inclusion of student organizations from Barak Valley in a letter to Minister of Education Dr Ranoj Pegu.

" With reference to the letter no ASE521/ 2018/296 dated 27th August 2021 of the Special Commissioner, Secondary Education Department of Assam wherein several student organizations/ unions of Assam were invited to attend a discussion on 30-08-2021 at Guwahati regarding education-related issues of Assam. It is surprising to see that no student organizations from the three districts of Barak Valley were invited to the said meeting. This has given rise to huge grievances among the people of Barak Valley as to how a discussion on education-related issues of Assam can be held without any single representative organization from Barak Valley. It is unfortunate and has sent a bad message to the students of Barak Valley on being excluded in this manner," Dev said in the letter.

She further added that students' organizations from all districts must be consulted before any important decision is taken regarding their future. "BJP must put an end to their exclusion policy towards the three districts of Barak Valley, Assam," the former Silchar MP wrote on her social media as well.
