New Cachar SP urges people to become COVID police for maintaining safety rules

Silchar, May 18: New Superintendent of Police in Cachar District Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar IPS has made his intentions clear that during his tenure, people of Cachar will witness action-oriented approach by police to curb crime and maintain law and order in the district.

Nimbalkar, 2009 IPS batch was working as SP Tinsukia before taking charge as the new SP on Monday from Bhanwar Lal Meena IPS who is transferred to Guwahati as SP Vigilance and Anti Corruption. It may be mentioned that Nimbalkar had worked in Cachar as Additional SP back in 2013.

In his first interaction with the media at the conference hall on Tuesday alongside Additional SP (HQ) Jagadish Das and DSP(HQ) Bhargav Sanjeevan Goswami, Nimbalkar urged the people to assist police amidst the crisis caused by COVID-19.

" I would ensure that the approach of Cachar police will be action oriented and criminals and and those violating law and order shall be dealt with accordingly. However, amidst the ongoing severity of COVID-19 I would urge people to become COVID-19 police themselves by following the rules and also help us in upholding the guidelines set by the Government for public safety." He added to say that if any police official is found to flaunt with laws, he or she will not be spared. Any violators of the SOPs for COVID-19 will not spared. A number will be shared where people can send information on the violation of the guidelines, he informed.

Police will accelerate it's tasks to generate awareness on the COVID-19 appropriate behaviour, enhancing public address system across urban and rural areas, the new SP said.

Echoing the call given by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and State DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta IPS for firm action with human heart, Nimbalkar said the police will make efforts to coordinate with the law abiding citizens while the anti-social elements shall be dealt with hard hands.

Responding to questions on different layers of crime and vexed issues faced by the people of Cachar, the new SP said he would look into each and every issue, especially on the incidents of crime against women and children, human trafficking and drugs etc will be the focus of Cachar police. He mentioned that Assam police has done a lot on the issue of cyber crime and we at Cachar police will try to maintain the same spree.

Referring to the 4Es viz Education, Establishment, Enforcement and Emergency, Nimbalkar said education which is awareness about the rules and norms needed to be followed by the masses, establishment involves infrastructure with the police system , enforcement which falls within the ambit of the duties of the police and emergency which calls for to rise to the occasion and maintain cohesion with the public to control circumstances, he added.
