Hailakandi, April 17: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi inspected the Indo-Bangla international border in Bhanga area of Karimganj district in Barak Valley on Friday evening during her two-day visit.
She was accompanied by the commander of Bhanga BoP Narendra Singh Thanwar. She also examined the controversial construction of Rahimpur canal on the other bank of Kushiyara river by Bangladesh.
The Government of India has raised protests regarding the construction of this canal. It is learnt that Bangladesh is trying to make a connecting waterway by constructing this canal. The construction of this canal is now stopped by the Bangladesh authorities. The Union minister also discussed various issues related to the international border in Karimganj district.
