Silchar, May 31: A model COVID-19 vaccination centre, the first of its kind in the district, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Khageswar Pegu here on Monday.

According to sources at DIPR Karimganj, the model vaccination centre is located at the Club House of Karimganj District Sports Association. This is among the first few model vaccination centres the administration is mulling to speed up the process of vaccination. At present, the district has a total of 23 vaccination centres, sources said. The model vaccination centre has features for a waiting shed, observation room with drinking water facility, toilet, etc. The inaugural function was attended by ADC James Aind, Assistant Commissioner, K.Eshan Singh, Joint Director, Health Services, Dr.AK Daityari, Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer (FW), Dr. Ashim Kanti Das, DIO, Dr.MN Gogoi, DME Gulbahar Raj, among others.


"When a person visits the vaccination centre, his/her entire information will be verified, temperature will be checked through thermal scanner and RAT will be conducted following which he/she will be taken to the vaccination room," said a health official. "After vaccination, he/she will be kept under observation and asked to wait in the visitors' gallery. If he/she develops any symptoms or issues, then will be taken for check-up in the room and depending on requirements, the person will be taken to hospital for further help," added the health official.

DIPR sources informed that all norms issued by the State and Central Governments for COVID-19 facilities will be strictly followed here while the operation of the centre will be overseen by the district administration. Initially vaccines will be given to 45 plus persons. The centre will be operational from 9.30 am to 2.00 pm, including Sundays, sources said. Overall, the district has seen as many as 65 deaths so far due to COVID-19 and other related complications. The number of active cases in the district is 1,075 as on Sunday, sources added.
