Silchar, Sep 18: Following the directions of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with the rest of the state, the mega COVID-19 vaccination drive was held across 272 vaccination centres in Cachar district on Friday. According to a press statement issued by the National Health Mission Assam, the prime focus of the drive was to vaccinate the people who had received their first dose in the mega vaccination drive held in June this year. As per the release, Cachar district emerged as the second-highest district to inoculate as many as 50, 630 vaccine doses to the people till 8 pm.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli expressed her happiness and satisfaction at the overwhelming response and said, "this has been a major milestone. I thank the Honourable Chief Minister sir for allotting so many vaccines to Cachar. The highest we have done was around 27,000 doses. We were given a cumulative target of 50,000 doses to be administered based on our previous performance when in June, the district had outperformed in terms of inoculating vaccine doses. Amidst challenges in manpower, rains playing foul, coming out to be the second district in the state is an inspirational feeling."

The Deputy Commissioner was quick to share the success with the District Health team which, in her words, took the challenges and performed diligently. "I hope the double doses of vaccines will help to keep the spread of the virus at bay especially with festival season inching closer and I also hope that we shall soon be out of the pandemic. I thank the ADC (Health), Joint Director of Health Services, District Programme Manager, ASHA and all others who pitched in efforts to make the drive successful."

As per the available data from the District Administration sources here, as many as 58,827 doses were administered in Cachar district till 11 pm registering 117.65 per cent vaccination. It may be mentioned that M. Ariz Ahamed, IAS, Principal Secretary, Development and Transformation, Government of Assam, was here to monitor the mega vaccination drive.

Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy also appreciated the efforts and thanked everyone for their participation that led to the remarkable achievement. Silchar legislator Dipayan Chakraborty hailed the efforts and wrote on his social media, "Feeling extremely happy to share this news, today Cachar District achieved yet another milestone by achieving 117.65% of vaccination.
