Massive storm lashes Majuli, leaves behind trail of destruction

Jorhat, July 23: A massive storm lashed Majuli late on Thursday night leaving behind a trail of destruction.

A Majuli district administration official informed that several houses were damaged with roofs blown away at Lahonaon, Gayangaon, Nikinikhuwa, Dakhinpat, Meragarh, Phuloni, Jogigaon, Salmora under Ujani Majuli Revenue Circle and Sukansuti gaon under Majuli Revenue Circle due to last night's storm that blew over the island at around 11.30 PM.

Trees were uprooted and power poles fell on the ground on roads in many areas across the river island. Restoration efforts are underway, the official stated.

There has been no reports of loss of lives but one bull owned by Kiron Bora of Daloni Chamoguri under Ujani Majuli Circle died due to the storm, the official informed.

Meanwhile, a boy aged about 11 years of Kuli Chapori (Katatipar) area drowned on Friday and the body was later recovered by the locals.
