Silchar, May 29: Following the directions of the Supreme Court for releasing the inmates of the detention centres of the State on bail who have completed two years of their term, 67 year old Manindra Das came out of the detention camp inside Silchar Central Jail on Saturday.

According to sources at the Silchar Central Jail, Das was the last detainee as per the Foreigners Tribunal verdict to have been released on bail bond. According to sources, notices were served by the Tribunal back in 2015. Eventually, he was arrested in May 2019.

A resident of Katigorah constituency in Cachar district, Manindra Das expressed his mind before the media after coming out from the detention camp saying, " there is no regret, rather I would take this as my fate. However, I had been identified as a doubtful citizen in my own country where I cast my vote and witnessed the formation of many Governments and this feeling is humiliating. Hence even after being released, facing people in society will be a tough challenge for me now. I look to live like a normal human being."

It may be mentioned that socio-cultural activist Kamal Chakraborty took yet another initiative to bail out Das on bond. " The process of release of such persons became easier thanks to the verdict by the Supreme Court in 2020. But merely coming out of the camp on bail is not the end of the trouble for Das and many like him. There have been victims like Chandradhar Das who died with questions left unanswered. These incidents will bear a history for us and the future as well. I am happy to do my humble bit for them," Chakraborty maintained.
