Lurin set to lose; AJP staring at a blank

Guwahati, May 2: Student leader-turned-politician Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president, is staring at defeat in both the constituencies he had contested in the Assam Legislative Assembly polls.

As per ECI official data at 5.45 PM, Gogoi is at the third position in both the seats -- Duliajan and Naharkatia.

Gogoi, who was the general secretary of the All Assam Students Union during the anti-CAA protests, had left the AASU to become the founder-president of the AJP, a party formed last year with direct intervention of the AASU.

Meanwhile, the AJP is likely to draw a blank in the polls as all it's top contenders, including it's working president Pabindra Deka (Patacharkuchi), general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan (Sadiya) and Dulu Ahmed (Hajo), are lagging behind in the vote count.
