Hailakandi, Sept 6: A boyfriend sits in a dharna in front of the police station demanding that his seven-year love be returned.

This unprecedented incident occurred in Hailakandi district. A thirty plus youth suddenly started a dharna in front of Abdullahpur police outpost of Hailakandi district on Sunday with placards demanding the return of his seven years old love 'justice'. The youth has been identified as Baharul Islam Mazumdar, a resident of Seralipur village near Lala town.

Mazumdar works in a private company in Bangaluru and he came to Hailakandi to marry the girl after seven years of affairs and to his utter surprise he came to know that the girl's marriage had been fixed with another boy. Finding no alternative after her rejection, he started a 'democratic protest'. Mazumdar alleged that the girl promised him to marry and he has spent about three lakh rupees to fulfil her all the wishes.

The in-charge of Abdullahpur police outpost, Nirmal Kumar Das later managed the youth to stop the dharna and sent him to his home. Das said that this has created heavy traffic jams on the inter-state national highway.

Some of the local people commented that this sort of personal thing should not disturb the life of common people and it should be sorted out personally.
