Guwahati, Sept 16: The State Cabinet on Thursday decided that the regular classes for Class X students in High Schools, High Madrassas, residential schools, day boarding schools, including Government and private, would resume from September 20.

However, authorities of such schools will have to ensure that all the employees and workers are fully vaccinated.

In another decision, the State cabinet which sat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sanctioned Rs 379 crore under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana towards payment of insurance premium on behalf of the farmers. Another Rs 250 crore was sanctioned for the Assam infrastructure funding Agency for taking up infrastructure –related projects.

The State cabinet also approved the creation of a new post of Chief Engineer, PWD, (Health and Education) under Assam PWD (Building and NH) department aimed at expediting all health and educational infrastructure projects undertaken by the PWD in the State.

The Cabinet also declared a State holiday (September 17) for all State Government employees on account of Karam Puja, one of the major festivals for the tea tribe communities.

Moreover, in order to bust the myth about rhino horns and resultant poaching, the Cabinet decided that 2479 out of the 2623 rhino horns stockpiled in the State treasuries will be destroyed by consigning them to flames in public. While 80 rhino horns would be preserved as heritage pieces for academic purposes, 50 rhino horns would be reserved for court cases.


It was also decided to repeal the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (Licensing of Rickshaws and rickshaw pullers) Bye Laws, 1976. The Corporation will explore Aadhaar-based online registration in place of physical presence for such registration. The decision to develop the infrastructure of 12 farms under Assam Seeds Corporation Limited was also taken at today's meeting.

Further, horticulture nursery, Ulubari, and the Ulubari nursery under the Assam seeds Corporation Limited would be converted into state-of-the-art facilities.
