Kaziranga: Ferocious rhino gone inside forest

Kaziranga, Aug14: The rhino which was hit by a DI vehicle the day before yesterday at Haldhibari area adjacent to Kaziranga National Park near Kohora caused damages to many vehicles including vehicles belonging to Kaziranga National Park.


The rhino which remained unconscious for around 10 minutes, according to forest sources, after it was hit by vehicle on NH 37 in Haldhibari area of Kaziranga on day before yesterday later regained its consciousness and after which it became extremely ferocious causing damages to vehicles plying on NH 37 on Friday.


The Park Authority of Kaziranga later deployed heavy forest staff and guards to monitor the activities of said rhino which had caused serious sensation yesterday. It had even attacked two park authority's elephants and injured them which had been pressed into the services to chase back the ferocious rhino inside the forest of Kaziranga. But the rhino caused serious problems even to nearby residential areas yesterday. Kaziranga Park Director informed this to The Assam Tribune that tranquillising would be the last option to control the species.


But on Saturday early morning around 3:00 am the rhino went inside the forest of Kaziranga which was seen even by a forest staff on duty. The forest staff even verified the video footage of the ferocious rhino and confirmed that it had gone inside the forest of Kaziranga.


On Saturday the situation remained normal and no untoward incident happened, said the forest officer. The rhino did not come out from the forest area today, which was confirmed by forest officials.
