Hailakandi, Oct 5: The district administration of Karimganj in South Assam has ordered an enquiry to find out the reason of sudden collapse of hanging bridge in Cheragi under Ratabari constituency. The MLA of Ratabari Bijoy Malakar expressed serious concern over the collapse of bridge and said sought a thorough enquiry.

It can be mentioned here that atleast 50 tenth class students of Cheragi Vidyapeeth were injured when a hanging bridge over Singla river collapsed on Monday evening at Cheragi, nearly 75 kms from Karimganj town. All the students were returning after the end of school when the hanging bridge suddenly collapsed in the river. The local people came to rescue. All the injured students were provided first aid on the spot by the health workers of Cheragi Hospital.

The bridge was constructed in 2017. Local people informed that initially rupees 10 lakh was sanctioned for the construction of the bridge. They also alleged anomalies regarding the construction of the bridge.
