Hailakandi, Nov 2: The members of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) today staged a dharna in front of DC's Office here against the price rise.

A memorandum has also been submitted to the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sharma through the deputy commissioner of Hailakandi. The memo, signed by the secretary of Hailakandi unit of SUCI(C), Prabhas Sarkar condemned the hike of prices of essential commodities, petrol and diesel. Due to the high rise of fuel, essential commodities and irregular supply of essential commodities in the fair price shops, the people are facing extreme hardship and demand the regular supply of all the essential commodities in the fair price shops for the relief of common poor people.

Memo suggested slashing all sorts of state level tax over petrol and diesel to control the prices of fuel. Memo said that the passenger vehicles are hiking the rates of tickets without any justification which is beyond the reach of common people and urged the administration to intervene into it on priority basis.
