Guwahati, July 31: It was not a normal day for Guwahati's Brinda Kashyap (name changed) when she was allegedly groped by a passerby in broad daylight. The horrific incident occurred at Guwahati's Rukmininagar on Friday at around 4:30 PM when a man riding his scooty approached Brinda on the pretext of asking for directions and allegedly grabbed her chest in broad daylight.
Shocked and visibly shaken, Brinda took a moment to realise what just happened with her and meanwhile, the perpetrator, identified as Madhusana Rajkumar of Panjabari, tried to flee the spot. Brinda's expertise and years of training in mixed martial arts (MMA) helped her jump into action and stop the man from escaping.
She recorded the entire incident and posted the video on social media. The video, which has now gone viral, has garnered a lot of support from people from all walks of life and many have applauded her bravery for standing up against the atrocity.
Brinda while speaking to The Assam Tribune said, "There is an embedded notion where women are supposed to be protected but naturally women should be as safe as men when they step out of their homes. But these days women have to fight for their safety just because of such black moles in the society. Due to incidents like these, parents panic to let their daughters out of the home."
"When I posted the video on social media, a lot of women from across the country reached out to me and said that they too faced such horrific sexual assault when out on the streets," she added.
An FIR has been lodged against Madhusana Rajkumar and he has been arrested by Dispur Police.
