Silchar, Aug 12: On a day when Assam pugilist Lovlina Borgohain who won bronze medal for India at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics 2020 was given a grand welcome by the State Governmernt on her return to homeland, people from Barak Valley too shared their joy and conveyed their wishes for the Olympian.

Ecstatic with Lovlina's achievement, Pradip Dutta Roy, chief convener of Barak Democratc Front (BDF) in a video release has said that it is a proud feeling to witness the homecoming of Lovlina who brought great joy for the people by being the first Olympian from Assam to win a medal at the Tokyo showpiece.

"On behalf of the people of Barak Valley, we also would like to felicitate Lovlina Borgohain here in Silchar along with District Sports Association sometime around last week of August. We urge upon the Government to make necessary arrangements for the purpose. Also, we place before the Government our demand to rename the Sarusajai sports complex in Guwahati to that of the Olympian medalist which would encourage a whole generation of sports persons from the State as well as North East," the BDF chief convener said.

Interestingly, Dutta Roy also placed a demand for renaming the Nehru stadium in Guwahati in the name of Bir Lachit Borphukan, the braveheart of the Ahom Kingdom.
