GMC election result counting underway:  BJP-AGP leading, AAP makes debut in Guwahati, AJP wins one ward

Guwahati, April 24: The counting of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation is underway at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati. As per early trends BJP is leading in 30 wards while AGP won 4 wards.

As per the latest information available with The Assam Tribune, BJP candidates- Basanti Kalita Dowerah has won ward no 41 with 3499 votes, Mukul Kalita won ward no 2 with 3863 votes, Manjula Devi won ward no 11 with 6075 votes

BJPs ally Asom Gana Parishad, (AGP) managed to grab 4 wards so far, among them Dipankar Baishya won ward no 12 with 7425 votes, Purabi Talukdar won ward no 13 with 3796 votes.

Assam Jatiya Parishad's (AJP) candidate Hukum Chand Ali Bakshi won from ward no 1 with 4600 votes.

While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made inroads in the Guwahati Municipal elections after its candidate Masuma Begum won from ward no 42 with 3202 votes.

The counting of votes is underway and the results may vary. Meanwhile, Congress is yet to open its account.

At least 197 candidates from 57 wards were in the fray in the election which was being held after a gap of nine years. Of the total 57 wards, BJP candidates have been elected uncontested in three wards.
