Gecko lizards and pangolin crust recovered in Diphu

Diphu, July 19: Wildlife Crime Control Bureau of Assam, Forest Department and Assam police have recovered ten Gecko lizards alive and about twelve kilograms of pangolin crust from two persons today while they were about to transport the wild creatures from Nagaland through Bokajan subdivision of Assam.

According to the officer of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau of Assam one Indian Reserve Battalion constable and another general person have been arrested by police for their involvement in the crime.

The IRBN constable and his associate have been identified as Khot Rikh and Ilung Ihu, both residents of Nagaland and together were carrying out the illegal trade for a long time.

It may be mentioned here that Gecko lizards belong to the infraorder Gekkota species and are found in tropical and subtropical climates of the world and are hunted mainly due to superstitious convictions.
