Guwahati, Feb 18: In view of the declining trend in Covid-19 cases, the Gauhati High Court will resume its physical hearing from February 21 (Monday).

In a modified notification issued on Wednesday, it has been stated that all cases in Gauhati High Court and all lower courts shall be heard in physical mode from February 21.

However, requests for virtual hearing will be allowed only on a case-to-case basis with prior approval of the bench concerned at least a day before the hearing, read the notification.

The notification further mentioned that all non-vaccinated or partially vaccinated advocates, staff shall be allowed to enter the court premises provided they furnish a negative report of the RT-PCR test not older than 48 hours.

It urged the public to adhere to covid appropriate behaviour and avoid overcrowding, only those advocates whose cases are listed before a particular bench will be allowed to sit inside a courtroom and shall leave once the hearing is over.

The court has been functioning in virtual mode with a staggered roster since January 6 due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the State.

All covid restrictions were withdrawn in the State from February 15. Offline schools resumed and night curfew was also lifted.

Meanwhile, Assam on Thursday reported 47 new infections, eight less than the previous day, taking the tally to 7,23,861, according to the bulletin issued by National Health Mission. Four new Covid fatalities have pushed the death toll to 6,623.
