Four dead in separate road mishaps in Cachar

Silchar, Dec 27: At least four persons died in two separate road accidents in Cachar district on Sunday.

According to sources, while two persons died on the spot in a head-on collision between a tipper truck and an auto at Moinagarh in Borkhola constituency, another victim was rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital(SMCH) succumbed to the injuries. The victims were identified as Sanjib Akura, Ritujyoti Acharya and Arjun Ghosh.

The incident sparked tension as furate mob staged a road blockage along the Mahasadak for some hours demanding action against a speeding truck loaded with stones on the route. Later, Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur along with the battalion rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. "The situation has been brought under control. We have shifted the dead bodies and we are looking into the incident and necessary action will be taken," the SP told the media persons.

Meanwhile in another road mishap at Siburjangal under Udharbondh constituency, a health worker who was with her son on a scooty died after a speeding Maruti Swift car rammed on the two-wheeler. Sources informed that the victim died while being taken to the SMCH. The deceased has been identified as Sangita Bhattacharjee, a resident of Salganga under Udharbondh constituency.
