Guwahati, Jan 22: Former Congress MLA from Nalbari Legislative Assembly, Madan Kalita breathed his last on Friday. He was elected as a Congress MLA from Nalbari constituency in 2001.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while condoling the death of the former MLA stated that Kalita will always be remembered for his contribution to overall development of his constituency.
"The passing away of former Nalbari MLA Madan Kalita has deeply saddened me. He will always be remembered for his contribution to overall development of his constituency. My condolences to the bereaved. Praying for his sadgati. Om Shanti!," tweeted Sarma.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora has also condoled the demise of the former legislator.
"We are shocked to hear the news of the demise of Nalbari District Congress Committee's former president, former MLA Madan Kalita! We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family," Bora said in a tweet.
