Diphu, Oct 3: After making constant success against the drug smugglers, Karbi Anglong police managed to blow against the arms runners on Friday along the borderline of Assam Nagaland, by seizing quantities of sophisticated arms and arresting five persons suspected to have terror link.

According to police sources, guarded inspection points were set up by 5 Assam Rifles and police along the entire route between Dimapur and Naharjan locality under Chotolengri police petrol post of Bokajan subdivision, Karbi Anglong district based on input provided by Assam Rifles based at Dimapur about consignment of sophisticated arms and ammunition from Nagaland to Assam by suspicious persons.

The arrest took place at Naharjan on Friday morning, during checking of the targeted Gypsy devoid of number plate, the vehicle was stopped and rummaged through by the force in ensnare; during the search three AK 56 assault rifles, magazines, live ammunition, one pistol with magazine and several live rounds were found in concealed state. Beside arms and ammunition, mobile phones and SIM cards were also seized.

Five occupant of the numberless vehicle were immediately taken into custody; arrested persons were later identified by police as Sgt Ngampoi Vashim, Sgt Maj Ashang Chithung, Lanchungrei Kamei, Lt Khuikashung Thangkul and a civilian named Zingkhi Wungreingam. Four of the arrested are from Nagaland while Lanchungrei Kamei is from Cachar district of Assam.

The raiding police team who conducted the successful operation includes Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter) Karbi Anglong Nahid Karishma, Inspector Moni Chamua of Bokajan police Station, Sub Inspector P. Rabha of Dillai police station and Assistant Sub Inspector Tarun Borah of Chotolengri Police Petrol Post.
