Raha, July 10 : The Department of Fisheries,Government of Assam on Saturday celebrated National Fish Farmers' Day at Jungal Balahu Garh Fish Farm here in a befitting manner . The day is commemorated in remembrance of scientists Dr K. H. Alikunhi and Dr. H.L. Chaudhury who had invented induced breeding technology on 10th July day way back in 1957.


Minister of Fisheries , Environmental and Forest Parimal Suklabaidya attended the event as chief guest while Director of Fisheries , NK Devnath , Deputy Director of Fisheries JP Medhi , MD FISHFED Dr DJ Sharma , DFDO Nagaon Dr. RC Barman, Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Kavitha Padmanathan and Ramakanta Deuri , MLA , Morigaon were present as guest of honour.


The programme started with plantation of saplings followed by distribution of Chital fish fingerlings and Jayanti rohu spawn to the progressive fish farmers. A felicitation was also accorded to the fish farmers who have contributed immensely to the development of the fisheries sector. A Fish Seed Multiplication Centre with induced breeding constructed at a cost of Rs. 62.45 lakhs under APART was also inaugurated by the minister.
