Silchar, Dec 15: In a major development, tension prevailed along Assam Manipur interstate border circumferencing Cachar district on Tuesday after villagers of Samtilla on the edge of the border were jolted with noise of bullets being fired in the open.

According to police, one person sustained injury in the incident and he has been rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital(SMCH) for treatment.

Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur along with SDPO Lakhipur Kulapradeep Bhattacharya rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. " It is an extremist activity. A group of at least ten militants had crossed over 500 metres inside Assam. They placed certain demands before the villagers which were refused resulting in an altercation and subsequently the firing in which one person sustained injury. He has been rushed to the SMCH for operation. He is maintaining a stable health.

The militants (suspecting involvement of NSCN (IM) fled from the spot after firing bullets. We are communicating with Tamenglong district Police authorities and investigation is in progress," the SP said.
