Diphu, Aug 5: A drug peddler was injured in Karbi Anglong during a police encounter along Assam-Nagaland border at Rongapahar under Dhansiri police station here on Wednesday night at around 8 pm after the peddler allegedly tried to escape from custody.

It may be mentioned here that Karbi Anglong police based on specific input intercepted a SUV bearing registration No AS17-D-0007 last Monday. The raiding police team during the checking recovered forty one soap cases containing 552 gram heroin.

Police immediately seized the psychotropic substances and arrested two accused, Aftab Hussain son of Lt. Abdul Hasim resident of Islampur within the command of Ratabari police station of Karimganj district. Another arrested person has been identified as Sabir Hussain son of Babul Hussain, resident of Ajunpur within the control of Patharkandi police station of the same district.

Police took them in custody for four days for further investigation. Accordingly, police last night took them for an anti-drug operation to the Assam-Nagaland border Rongapahar area. But interestingly, soon after reaching Rongapahar, the arrested drug peddler who was identified as accused, Aftab Hussain injured on his leg in police firing while he tried to escape from the custody.

Later, the drug peddler was sent to Diphu Medical College & Hospital for treatment.
