Kokrajhar, Dec.22: A drug smuggler who was tried to feeling from the police custody was shot at and sustained bullet injuries last night near Bishmuri area under Kokrajhar police station in Kokrajhar, Kokrajhar Addl SP, SS Panisar informed here on Tuesday.
The accused Mahesh Yadab and Harendar Yadab (Bolia, UP) were arrested on Monday from Srirampur Inter State Border in Kokrajhar with 308 kg marijuana worth Rs 70 lakh which was concealed in a Truck bearing No-WB 11C 3219.
During interrogation, Harendar Yadab revealed that he has concealed more packets of marijuana near Bishmuri area. However, while being taken to Bishmuri area to identify the exact place, he attacked the police team and run into a jungle.
Police also chased and fired at him. As a result the accused Harendar Yadab received bullet injuries on his leg. Police immediately took him to the R.N.B. Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar and later shifted him to the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical Medical College & Hospital in Barpeta.
Meanwhile, a fire incident took place at Simultapu Police Out Post near Inter-State Border in Kokrajhar on the vehicle from where the marijuana was recovered and seized.
