Digboi, May 25 : In a major crackdown against the illegal drugs trade in Digboi, team Duliajan police in association with Digboi police made a significant breakthrough recovering 25 kilograms of marijuana, 75 vials of suspected heroin along with cash worth one lakh and eighty thousand rupees.
Three persons including a women and two youths were arrested by police in this connection.
The arrested woman identified as Sira Begum who was also a scrap vendor was running the illegal drug trade along two of the arrested, Pucki Ali and Shantanu Borah, in Digboi and its adjoining areas.
The arrest was made during a raid launched by joint Police team led by DSP Namrup, Kula Pradip Bhattacharjya, and OC Duliajan, Rupjyoti Dutta.
The residence of Saira Begum located at railway level crossing under Charali Bazar area behind the Sharma Sweets hotel was raided by the team and the contraband was recovered from her place.
"All three were arrested during the act in support of sufficient material evidences", said the police official while confirming the recovery of the contraband along with the cash.
"We were about to crack on Monday but waited for the favourable circumstances till Tuesday morning", said Rupjyoti Dutta.
The drug peddlers and the lady kingpin were taken under the custody of Duliajan police for further investigation.
