Hailakandi, July 25, A drug peddler has been injured due to police firing in Patherkandi area of Karimganj district in South Assam on Saturday.


The injured drug peddler has been identified as Kawsar Ahmed. He is the resident of Banglatilla of Patherkandi. Karimganj police super Padmanabha Baruah informed that on the basis of secret information, a team of police personnel conducted a raid in a village of Patherkandi and during the raid the drug peddlers attacked the police and tried to snatch the service revolver of a police.


Police had to fire over them. Ahmed received an injury and he was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Two policemen were also injured during the attack and they have been admitted to Karimganj civil hospital.


Police sources said that 72 grams of suspected drug recovered from the possession of Ahmed and further investigation is on.
