Hailakandi, June 4: Two persons including a lady have been arrested by Hailakandi police today in connection with the assault of an on duty government doctor.
The Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur confirmed the arrest of two persons connected with the incident. A case number 448/21 has been registered in Hailakandi sadar police station under section 294, 323, 353, 506 and 34 IPC. The arrested persons have been identified as Rumpi Malakar and Himangshu Malakar. Rumpi has been found Covid-19 positive and she has been admitted to Covid ward of SK Roy Civil Hospital.
It can be mentioned here that a medical officer Dr. Gaurav Bhattacharjee was allegedly beaten up by the relatives of a serious patient identified as Chitta Malakar. The patient was reportedly brought to SK Roy Civil Hospital on May 27 with a serious breathing problem and he died. After the death of the patient, Dr. Bhattacharjee was allegedly beaten up by the family members and relatives. Next day morning, he filed an FIR in Hailakandi sadar police station.
