Dhubri, Aug 3: A 16-year-old girl from Tamarhat area of Dhubri District has been rescued by Dhubri Childline along with Gujrat Police at Surat, who got lost while escaping the torture of her in-laws.

It was informed that the minor girl was married off to a person illegally, who took her to Uttar Pradesh promising her and her family to work in a brick factory. However, after a few days, her husband and his family members started torturing the teenage girl at their residence at Uttar Pradesh informed Dhubri Childline.

Dhubri Childline also stated that at one point of time the 16-year-old was unable to bear the physical and mental torture and she escaped from her in-laws' place at Uttar Pradesh and left for Delhi where her relatives were staying.

"Instead of Delhi the girl reached Surat district of Gujarat, the Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered her and took her to a local children's home", said Sahinur Islam, Coordinator of Dhubri Childline.

"The authorities then contacted the Childline protection team of Dhubri district. Childline protection team took help from Dhubri police and connected with Gujarat police. And the girl has been brought back to Dhubri", informed Islam.

Child Welfare Committee after examination and counseling handed over the 16-year-old to her family on Tuesday.

It may be mentioned that child marriage in remote parts of Dhubri continues to prevail, which has caused many unfortunate incidences.
