COVID-19 scare: Street vending, pop- up shops in markets to be closed in Cachar

Silchar, June 17: In the wake of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Cachar district, Cachar Deputy Commissioner has ordered prohibition in the running of all street vending and pop-up shops in weekly and daily markets within the periphery of Cachar District.

An order issued on June 17, Deputy Commissioner cum chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority Cachar Keerthi Jalli mentioned that the daily report of the Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar indicates that the number of COVID-19 positive cases are still following an increasing trend in Cachar District. Moreover, due to large gathering in weekly and daily markets, the visitors, consumers may not be able to maintain social distancing and other COVID-19 protocol and appropriate behaviour which may lead to a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases.

"It is in this backdrop, exercising powers under section 34, subsection (m) of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and as per Assam COVID-19 Regulations 2020, vide Order no. HLA248/2020/6 dated 18/03/2020 recommend that the vending & pop-up shops in all weekly/ daily markets within Cachar District on continuous basis shall be immediately closed until further orders.


This order shall be applicable within the periphery of the market areas of Udharbhond, Lakhipur, Jirighat, Fulertol and Poilapool, SonabarighaL Baga, Nutan Bazar and Dholai, Borkhola and Srikona, Katigorah Chowrangee and Kalain," the Deputy Commissioner said.
