Slichar, Dec 7: At a time when OMICRON, the new variant of COVID-19 is posing a fresh threat of the spread of the virus across the country, four persons having travel history to foreign countries have been tested COVID POSITIVE in RT-PCR test at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

Suman Choudhury, the district media expert National Health Mission Cachar informed on Tuesday that out of the four passengers, three of are residents of Karimganj district have travel history to Saudi Arabia and one from Cachar has a travel history of returning from Finland. "The persons from Karimganj have been isolated in their own district and the person from Cachar at SMCH. Their sample has been sent to National Institute of Biomedical Genomics for genome sequencing, to roll out Omicron," Choudhury maintained.

Asked about the contact tracing of the infected persons, the NHM media expert said that the samples of the air passengers were collected on arrival at the Silchar airport on Monday and the samples were sent for tests at the SMCH. "They were in home isolation after reaching the district. Contact tracing will start as tested positive on Tuesday," he maintained.
