Cong against hasty discharge of COVID negative patients

By The Assam Tribune

Guwahati, Jun 8: The Congress today urged the Assam government to ensure that hospitalised patients who test negative for COVID-19 are treated for other underlying medical conditions before being discharged from the hospital.

In a joint press statement by Leader of Opposition in State Assembly Debabrata Saikia and his deputy Rakibul Hussain, they said once a patient tests negative for COVID-19, she/he is immediately discharged from the hospital.

As a result, many patients suffer from post-COVID complications and the number of deaths of such people has been increasing, they claimed, based on their interactions with the public.

The complications are particularly severe in people with existing comorbidites and advanced age.

"Hence, we hope that the government takes this matter seriously and ensures that a patient is not discharged just after testing negative for COVID-19 or just when the oxygen saturation level improves, but other underlying conditions are also treated and discharged only after complete recovery," Saikia and Hussain added.
