Silchar May 23: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has condoled the demise of noted academician and senior BJP leader Prof Partha Sarathi Chanda who passed away on May 19 following a massive cardiac arrest at his residence.


In a letter to Punyadeep Chanda, nephew of the deceased, the Chief Minister expressed his grief to the bereaved family saying " the news of the sad demise of your uncle Partha Sarathi Chanda has come as a shock to me. He was an acclaimed educationist. As a professor he had an immense role among the young minds. He infused in his students the passion for English Literature and its relevance. Also as a leader of the BJP, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the party organisation His passion, pursuit and prudence had drafted an inroad for the party to spread its influence in Barak Valley. I pay my tribute to this great soul. His death is an irreparable loss to the state; however, I am sure, the rich legacy he left behind will continue to inspire the posterity. At this moment of grief, I extend my solidarity with you and convey my deepest condolences. I pray for his soul to rest in eternal peace.``


It may be mentioned that Prof Chanda was the former Principal of Guru Charan College and also worked as the headmaster of Silchar Collegiate School after his retirement from the college.
