Kajalgaon, Dec 28: In order to celebrate the ensuing new year without a single accident and to ensure safety of the people, the Chirang district administration has decided to impose restrictions on vehicular movement, maintenance of picnic spots, and liquor selling and purchasing on December 31, 2021 and January 1, 2022.
Addressing media persons after a meeting with the members of all the management committees of picnic spots in the district and concerned stockholders in the conference hall of Deputy commissioner's office at Kajalgaon on Moday, Deputy Commissioner, Chirang, Narendra Kumar Shah informed that drunk driving should be eliminated, as it has a high probability to lead to serious traffic accidents. "In this regard, officers of transport department and excise department have been asked to remain active round the clock during these days and to conduct tight checking at different locations, including at all picnic spots, and to take necessary action against those who have been found driving under the influence of alcohol as there is sufficient provision under the drunk driving laws for imposing fine of Rs. 10,000, six-month imprisonment along with cancellation of driving license".
Expressing concern over the increasing number of road accident every year in the district, he appealed to all the citizens of Chirang district not to drive after drinking alcohol, to wear helmet always by all riders and co-passengers of two-wheelers , to use seat belt by four-wheelers. He added that district police and transport department had already been put in service in this regard.
Stating other scheduled activities, he told that the management committees of all the picnic spots had been instructed to shutdown their venues before 5PM everyday and to ensure discipline within their premises. Deputy Commissioner Shah also informed that they had decided to deploy State Disaster Response Force at some picnic spots where there are still water bodies and apprehension of drowning. He also asked the license holder wine shop owners to ensure not to sell liquor to already drunk persons.
During the press briefing, he was accompanied by Chirang Superintendent of Police Pranjit Borah, Additional Deputy Commissioner Khanindra Das and other officials of district administration.
