Silchar, Nov 10: In a major development, five days after Cachar police detected a suspected object along the Assam Mizoram interstate border, personnel from the Special Branch of police defused the object.
Senior police officials informed that the object was detected to be explosive and was defused successfully at a far off place near the interstate border. Police has urged the people living along the border to remain alert and vigilant
Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur however informed that investigation is in process to identify the source of the explosive being planted at the place close to the under-construction bridge. "Even as police diligently defused the explosive after due investigation which was a mix of gelatin and detonator as per preliminary reports, security in the vicinity has been beefed up. We have informed the developments to SP Kolasib district and investigation is in progress to ascertain the source of the explosive. We have anti-sabotaged the entire area and vigil is being maintained," the SP maintained.
It may be mentioned that post the detection of the object on Saturday, it was kept at a safe location as per procedures, away from human settlement and experts were called to check and ascertain whether it is explosive or was it just a hoax attempt to strike tension in the vicinity of the interstate border.
