Cachar among 5 districts with constant rise in COVID-19 cases

Silchar, June 15: Two more COVID-19 casualties were registered at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Tuesday. According to Dr Bhaskar Gupta, vice principal of the hospital, the deceased persons were from Karimganj and Hailakandi districts respectively.

On the other hand, sources in the District Health Department informed that out of 189 RAT and 16 RTPCR tests conducted till 6 pm, 205 COVID-19 positive cases have been registered from across the district on Tuesday. Sources further informed that since April 1 this year till June14, a total of 15,173 COVID-19 positive cases have been registered in the district while 12,727 persons have been discharged after recovery during the same period.

Meanwhile, as per the new SOP on COVID-19 announced by the Government on Tuesday, Cachar district is among the five districts along with Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur and Nagon where total number of cumulative cases and per day cases are still showing persistently higher numbers. As per the new SOP, these districts will be under close watch till June 21 and in case there is no improvement in the COVID-19 status in these districts, stricter restrictions may follow.
