BSF rescues minor being forced into child marriage in Karimganj

Based on secret inputs from the Anti-Human Trafficking, the 134 battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) along with the BOP Bilbari Intelligence staff carried out an operation and rescued a minor girl who was being married to a 20-year-old boy.

A release issued by the BSF informed that the minor girl was a resident of Kabol Village in Dattagramin Karimganj district while the boy belonged to Bagargol under Badarpur police station of the district.

"Both are underage for marriage and it was solemnised by a local Kazi with the consent of the girl's mother who is a widow. The girl, accompanied by her mother and the boy were brought to Nilambazar police station. The case will be dealt with by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Karimganj," the release said.

Meanwhile, Karimganj police informed that a case has been registered under section 10/11 of the Prevention of Child Marriage Act 2006.
