Silchar, Dec 19: BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita has said that following the victory in the Assembly election this year and also in the recently held by-elections in the state, the party is upbeat and looking forward to winning the forthcoming elections for the Municipal boards and Municipal Corporations in the state.

In his first visit to Barak Valley after assuming charge as the president of the state BJP, Kalita interacted with the party workers at the Cachar District BJP office here on Saturday. Later, while responding to queries from the media, Kalita said, "for the forthcoming elections to the municipal boards and municipal corporations in the state including Dibrugarh and Silchar (which would soon be transformed into municipal corporation), the party leaders and workers are brimming with confidence, especially after the mandate of the assembly election and by-elections going in favour of the BJP. Preparations for the municipal elections have already been underway at the district and mandal levels. We are determined to oust the dynasty oriented politics of the Congress and intensify the development based and growth-oriented pace of progress for the people in the state.

Moreover, Kalita said that the BJP started its journey in the state from Barak Valley and each member of the party has learnt a lot while expanding across Brahmaputra Valley as well. "For the first time back in 1991, as many as nine BJP MLAs and two MPs were elected from Barak Valley. Hence, there is a lot that the party has learnt from Barak Valley and the Government led by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma maintains equal focus in terms of development across the two valleys," Kalita maintained. He also joined the BJP SC Morcha state conference in Karimganj.
