Guwahati, March 9: Counting of votes for the recently concluded Assam Civic polls is presently underway. Voting was held on March 6 for 977 wards in 80 municipal boards.

A total of 2,532 candidates were in the fray, while candidates of 57 wards were declared uncontested.

As per reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now leading in 548 wards, while the Congress is leading in 61 wards and other parties in 125.

The BJP has taken an early lead in the civic polls, the counting for which began at 8 AM on Wednesday.

As per the latest trends at 11:30 am, BJP is leading with 74 out of 80 boards while Congress managed to grab one board only.

BJP's ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has won 2 boards while AIUDF did not make it to the list of winners.
