Silchar, Sep 27: The Bharat Bandh on Monday called by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) as a protest against the controversial farm laws witnessed a strong response across Cachar district as public transport vehicles also remained off-road and shutters of offices, shops and other commercial establishments remained down throughout the day.

Earlier in the day, even as some cadres of the Left parties assembled outside the office of the Cachar Deputy Commissioner, there was not much of a demonstration witnessed.

"Along with the rest of the country, people of Cachar district have voiced their discontent over the anti-labour decisions taken by the Government. Prices of essentials are skyrocketing in the tenure of the BJP led Government. We are not forcing people from not entering offices and yet people across the district have responded to the bandh making it a success and sending a strong message to the ruling Government,' claimed Dulal Mitra, district general secretary of CPM.

However, the handful of bandh supporters were picked up by police from the spot and also from various parts of the city and took them to a makeshift centre in Kathal area of the city.
