Kolasib SP Vanlalfaka Ralte, while talking to The Assam Tribune on Saturday informed that the youth was arrested by Mizoram Police on September 28 allegedly for impersonating passengers coming from Assam side during the mandatory COVID-19 test at the entry point into the state in Vairengte. "On several occasions, the youth was found to be impersonating during the COVID-19 testing.

Accordingly, he was arrested on September 28 and later on he was produced before the honourable magistrate and subsequently he was put in judicial custody at the Kolasib district jail. However, on Friday night, unfortunately, he was found hanging in his cell. The warden spotted him hanging and the judicial enquiry is in progress and a postmortem will be conducted." The Kolasib SP informed that the youth's family has been contacted and the dead body is likely to be handed over on Saturday night.

On the other hand, Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur said that it is reportedly a case of suicide. However, since it is an interstate issue, the due procedure of enquiry is being followed and Kolasib district police authorities are being contacted.
