Hailakandi, Nov 18: One person arrested with drugs worth rupees three crore in Karimganj district of South Assam.

Indo-Bangla bordering Karimganj district has now become the corridor for the smuggling of various items. Karimganj is a paradise for various crimes including smuggling of drugs, cough syrups, Burmese betel nut, cattles etc.

One lakh yaba tablets were seized by the police during checking at Bheterband in Ratabari on Wednesday. The market value of which will be around three crore rupees, police sources said. At around 3 pm on Wednesday, searched an Toyota Innova passenger vehicle coming from Mizoram and a packet of 1 lakh yaba tablets was recovered from it. A 23-year-old man ran away as soon as the police started searching the vehicle. Police have arrested Burhan Uddin, son of Sahab Uddin of Salepur in Karimganj district. He was accompanied by four other youths. They are identifying themselves as ordinary passengers. Police did not arrest them but continued interrogation.


According to police sources, the notorious drug mafia Burhan Uddin was transporting 1 lakh Yaba tablets weighing 11.214 kg from Aizawl in an Innova car (KA01AF4347) for the purpose of smuggling in the auction market. Ratabari Police Station OC Inspector Ratan Das brought Burhan Uddin, 23 who was involved in smuggling to the police station for questioning.
