Guwahati, Feb 1: The women of Bamunigaon, Chaygaon in Assam's Kamrup district has created a niche for themselves as they embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship. Many like Sabita Das has benefitted from an initiative undertaken by NGO Dhriiti, which trains the women to make tableware made of areca nut leaf sheath. Apart from enhancing the financial income of their families, the women are also generating employment by engaging people of the village in collecting and cleaning the sheaths. The table ware produced are not only becoming a viable alternative to plastic and Styrofoam but also making its mark in the international market.
