Assam: Two ferries collide at Nematighat, many feared dead

Guwahati, Sept 8: In a shocking accident, two ferries collided in the Brahmaputra at Nematighat. According to initial reports, many have lost their lives in the accident.


Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today expressed deep concern over the tragic boat accident near Nimati Ghat, Jorhat and directed the District Administration of Majuli & Jorhat districts to undertake rescue mission expeditiously with the help of NDRF & SDRF.

He also directed Minister Bimal Bora to immediately travel to the site of incident for taking stock of the situation. He asked Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Samir Kumar Sinha to monitor the developments round-the-clock.


The Chief Minister himself will visit Nimati Ghat tomorrow for evaluating the situation.
