Bongaigaon, Sept 17: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced the launch of 14, 690 health and screening camps across the state over the next fortnight, dedicating to women's health. The initiative is a part of the national programme, “Swast Naari, Sashakt Parivar” unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Madhya Pradesh.
“The aim is to take healthcare to the remotest villages of Assam so that even the most marginalised women can access timely diagnosis and treatment. We aim to cover 24,000 villages under this initiative,” the Chief Minister said.
The health camps will provide screening for a wide range of conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, and cancer.
As a part of “Sewa Pakhwada” celebrations marking the Prime Minister's birthday, a mega health screening camp will be organised in every constituency.
“Through these camps, we will diagnose and offer treatment to patients under 18 years of age, including those suffering from blood cancer, congenital heart disease, cerebral palsy, deafness, and other conditions. Patient registers will be maintained to ensure continuous care and treatment,” Sarma added.
The Chief Minister also announced the launch of the ‘Nikshay Mitra Abhijan’ to support tuberculosis patients with nutritious meals. Additionally, more than 75 blood donation camps will be organised, with scope for expansion based on public participation.
Alongside health initiatives, Sarma said that 30 lakh women will soon be brought under the Orunodoi scheme. The state government will also continue promoting the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” plantation drive, encouraging families to plant trees in honour of mothers.
