Silchar, Feb 10: A week after a truck driver identified as K Praveen Singha, a resident from Dholai constituency of Cachar district was found mysteriously killed in Mizoram, the handyman who was under judicial custody in Mizoram was found in hanging condition.

Senior officials of Mizoram police informed the media that the handyman identified as Nipen Singh was kept under judicial custody after he confessed that he had killed the truck driver. He was alone in the cell and he was spotted in a hanging condition (with a piece of cloth) inside his bathroom. Police suspect this to be a case of suicide and the body has been recovered and sent for post mortem. Necessary procedures will be followed with respect to sending the body to his home in Assam, police told media persons.

On the other hand, Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur informed on Thursday said, "The man accused of the crime reportedly committed suicide and judicial enquiry will be followed into the incident. The Governments of both the states are in talks regarding the issue."

On the other hand, it may be mentioned that after the truck driver was found killed, his family members and locals had alleged that unidentified miscreants in Mizoram have killed Praveen and the blame has been put on Nipen. They had also pressed for an investigation to be done by Assam Police and adequate compensation to be given to the family of Praveen.

Responding on the issue, the Cachar SP said, "we have registered a case and investigation is underway."
