Hailakandi, June 28: Tension again cropped up in Assam-Mizoram border in Hailakandi district following the starting of construction of structures and planting of betel nut, banana saplings allegedly ten kilometers inside the Assam area.


The MLA of Katlicherra informed that the residents of Mizoram have encroached around ten kilometres of Assam land in Chuninullah, Aisonanglon villages under Dholchera-Phaisan bordering area and the matter has been informed to the deputy commissioner and police super of Hailakandi, he said. A team from Hailakandi comprising divisional forest officer Montaj Ali, Border DSP Nirmal Ghosh, officer in charge of Lala police station, Abdul Aziz rushed to the border but they were stopped by the Mizo miscreants. It is learnt that they had to return from the midway.


Later, a large number of members of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) on Monday visited the area and expressed serious concern over the alleged encroachment of bordering areas of Assam. Peasant leader Jahir Uddin Laskar criticized the role of administration and said that they have failed to protect the state border. He urged to stop the encroachment of bordering areas of Hailakandi district by the Mizo miscreants. He demanded immediate construction of roads in the area for the easy movements of security forces.
