Silchar, Feb 7: The Cachar police arrested a cadre of the Hmar People's Convention HPC (P) outfit. According to police, the arrested cadre identified as Lalremrout Hmar alias Hubel, (36) hails from Hmarkhawlien in Lakhipur district. He was involved in the kidnapping of the businessman from Udarbond. Hubel was arrested in the wee hours on Sunday, police said.
Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur, while speaking to the media said "the HPC outfit is active and has various factions among them. The factions were involved in various illegal activities in and around Cachar district. The arrested cadre was on the radar for a very long time. There are credible inputs of his involvement in various illegal activities in and around the Assam-Manipur border surrounding Cachar district. We are also developing on the inputs of his involvement in the kidnapping of a businessman from Udharbond."
