Assam Cattle Preservation Bill introduced in State Assembly

Guwahati, July 12: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today introduced the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill in the state Assembly, seeking to bring in a cow protection law on the lines of similar legislations in BJP ruled states like UP.

Sarma said the new legislation includes enough legal provisions to regulate the slaughter, consumption and transportation of cattle.

Violation of provisions in the new law entails imprisonment of up to eight years and a fine of Rs 3 lakh.

Second act of violation will double the penalty.
